Brad Adams

Executive Vice President of Post-Enrollment Services

Brad Adams joined the 2U team in 2009 and serves as the Executive Vice President of Post-Enrollment Services.  In this capacity, he oversees the service components of the student lifecycle including student support, field placements, faculty support, career services, and technical support. Having spent most of his career in the education technology sector, Brad brings a passion for quality outcomes and service to our students, faculty, and university partners.  Prior to joining 2U, Brad served as General Manager of Educate Online and Vice President of Technology for Sylvan Learning.  He earned his master’s degree in Public & International Affairs from the University of Pittsburgh and is currently an MBA candidate at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill MBA@UNC program.

Gabriel Bustamante

Executive Vice President of Global Sales and Admissions

Gabriel Bustamante is the executive vice president of global sales and admissions. In this role he is responsible for the overall sales strategy and execution of recruiting efforts for students of all 2U-powered programs worldwide. Bustamante joined the company in 2009 and oversees teams of admissions counselors with presence in Hong Kong, Los Angeles, Denver, and the Washington DC area. Prior to joining 2U, he led different sales organizations in the consumer products, education, and publishing industries. He earned a law degree from Anahuac University in Mexico, a management certification from Tulane, and speaks several languages.

Co-General Counsel

Todd Glassman joined 2U in April 2012 and has served as its general counsel since May 2013. Before joining 2U, Glassman spent more than 15 years in private practice at the law firm of Obermayer Rebmann Maxwell & Hippel LLP in Philadelphia. There, he was a partner in both the corporate and labor relations and employment law departments, and co-chair of the firm’s education practice group. He has represented clients in the education field throughout his career, including businesses in the educational media and experiential learning fields, education-based events production and a public school district. Most recently, Todd functioned as outside corporate counsel to 2U since 2009. Todd graduated from the George Washington University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and received his Juris Doctorate from Temple Law School

Chief Financial Officer

Cathy Graham has served as our chief financial officer since April 2012. Previously, she served as chief financial officer for Online Resources Corporation, a financial technology company, from 2002 to April 2012. Prior to that, she served as chief financial officer for VIA NET.WORKS, Inc., an internet services and web hosting provider, from 1998 to 2002. Previously, she served in senior financial positions with Yurie Systems, a telecommunications equipment manufacturer, and other public companies, as well as with several commercial banks. She holds a B.A. from the University of Maryland and an M.B.A. from Loyola College of Maryland.

Ranni Hammond

Chief People officer

Rani Hammond is 2U’s chief people officer and oversees global human resources, talent management and recruiting.

Prior to 2U, Hammond served as chief human resources officer at David’s Bridal, Inc., where she was accountable for the full talent lifecycle of the global retailer’s 14,000 employees. Her more than 20 years of global human resources management and executive experience also includes six years working for Hilton Worldwide as both a human resources vice president and vice president of global brands performance and planning. While at Hilton, Hammond provided client consulting services to executive vice presidents and their global teams that were collectively responsible for HIlton’s hotel brands, global marketing, sales, revenue management, loyalty, partnerships, digital and eCommerce functions.

A graduate of Bond University in Australia, Hammond holds a Bachelor of Commence in HR Management and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.

Executive Vice President of University Partnerships and Programs

Andrew Hermalyn is Executive Vice President of University Partnerships and Programs at 2U Inc (NASDAQ: TWOU).  As a member of 2U’s Senior Leadership Team, Hermalyn reports directly to the CEO, but got his start at the company nearly a decade ago as its founding intern.

Hermalyn leads a cross-functional team responsible for building new university relationships and expanding existing ones. Working closely with university administration and faculty, Hermalyn also oversees all program-related aspects of 2U's fast-growing partnership portfolio, which includes 10 of the top 20 U.S. News & World Report ranked universities. 

Over the course of nearly a decade, Hermalyn has held a number of increasingly senior roles at 2U. As the company's first Director of Business Development, he helped successfully negotiate some of its earliest partnerships, including American University, George Washington University, Simmons College, UC Berkeley, UNC Chapel Hill and Washington University in St. Louis. Based upon this track record, Hermalyn was asked to lead Semester Online, a strategic pilot focused on undergraduate education before becoming General Manager for Syracuse University, which has since grown into 2U's largest partner by number of programs. In 2016, Hermalyn was named Executive Vice President of Strategic Partnerships and has  helped drive the company's growth by expanding 2U's current university portfolio by more than double, including a groundbreaking inter-disciplinary collaboration with Harvard University.

Hermalyn's dedication to expanding access and opportunity in education earned him recognition on Forbes magazine's list of 30 Under 30 in Education – the definitive list of the world's most inspiring young innovators who are transforming the world.

A native of New Jersey, Hermalyn graduated from Lehigh University with a bachelor’s degree in sociology.

Chief Technology Officer

James Kenigsberg is 2U’s Chief Technology Officer and a 2U founding team member. James is an entrepreneur and technology evangelist who finds the passion and fun in using technology to improve education. At 2U, James has translated his passion for technology into creating award-winning learning management platforms, client relationship management systems, mobile applications, and cloud-based architectures. He also takes great pride in building the industry's most impressive and driven technology team at 2U, Inc.

 Prior to 2U, James led the technology and product team at The Princeton Review where he created and managed the company’s award-winning assessment products. He was also formerly a part of technology and product development teams at Thomson Financial and Ogilvy & Mathers.

Harsha Mokkarala

Chief Marketing Officer

Harsha Mokkarala was named chief marketing officer in January 2016. He joined 2U in 2013 as executive vice president of marketing strategy following a successful marketing career at Capital One, where he held senior roles in digital marketing and managed all facets of online marketing for Capital One's credit card acquisitions group. He has a master’s in computer engineering from the University of Wisconsin.

Matt Norden

Co-General Counsel

Matt Norden is 2U’s co-general counsel and oversees securities, corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and intellectual property matters.

Norden joined 2U in September 2013 as deputy general counsel. He helped lead 2U through its successful initial public offering in 2014 as well as the company’s acquisition of GetSmarter, which closed in July 2017. Norden was recognized for his career achievements in 2016 when he was named one of the D.C. region’s top 40 in-house lawyers.

Prior to 2U, Norden served as vice president, general counsel at TOMS Shoes. He served four years as the company’s global in-house legal counsel, providing cross-border advice to executive management on a variety of strategic and operational issues and played an integral role in the company’s rapid expansion to China, Europe, the Middle East and South America.

Earlier in his career, Norden was an associate in the Washington, D.C., office of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP, where he focused on mergers and acquisitions, private equity, corporate finance, securities law and general corporate matters.

Norden graduated from George Washington University with a BA in Psychology and earned his JD from Georgetown University Law Center.

CEO and Co-Founder

Chip Paucek is currently the co-founder and CEO of 2U, Inc., an education technology company founded in 2008 that partners with leading colleges and universities to deliver the world’s best online degree programs. In March 2014, he led the company’s successful Initial Public Offering, establishing 2U as one of the leaders in ed tech. Prior to 2U, Chip served as CEO of Smarterville, Inc., the parent company of Hooked on Phonics, and earlier as vice president of business development and president of Educate Products for Educate, Inc. Chip began his career in 1993 by co-founding Cerebellum Corporation, the media company behind the award-winning educational television program and video series, Standard Deviants, and led Cerebellum as co-chief executive officer until 2003. In 2004, Chip served as deputy campaign manager for the successful re-election campaign of United States Senator Barbara Mikulski.

Chip‘s innovative work at 2U has earned him many accolades, including the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2012, the Goldman Sachs 100 Most Intriguing Entrepreneurs Award in 2013, and multiple Highest Rated CEO awards from Glassdoor.  Chip holds a B.A. from The George Washington University and is currently enrolled in the 2U-powered MBA@UNC program at UNC Chapel Hill’s Kenan-Flagler Business School.

David Sutphen

Chief Communications and Engagement Officer

David Sutphen is 2U's Chief Communications and Engagement Officer and leads the global communications, public affairs, events and corporate brand teams.  

Sutphen joined 2U from Brunswick Group, a global strategic communications and advisory firm, where he was a Partner and head of the Washington, D.C., office.  During his more than eight years at Brunswick, Sutphen advised Fortune 500 and emerging companies on strategic communications, reputation, stakeholder engagement, crisis, diversity and public affairs matters with a particular focus on the media, retail, technology and education sectors.

Earlier in his career, Sutphen served as Judiciary Committee general counsel to the late Senator Edward M. Kennedy and chief of staff to former Congressman Harold Ford Jr. After leaving Capitol Hill, Sutphen worked as a senior vice president at the Recording Industry Association of America and at VIACOM, the parent company of MTV Networks, BET Networks and Paramount Pictures.

Outside of 2U, Sutphen is actively involved in numerous education, non-profit and philanthropic endeavors. He currently serves as board chair of GetSchooled (getschooled.com), a Viacom and Gates Foundation backed non-profit he helped launch more than eight years ago; a board member of CityBridge Education (citybridge.org); and as secretary of the board for the U.S. Soccer Foundation (ussoccerfoundation.org), the official charity of U.S. Soccer.

Sutphen is an honors graduate of Amherst College, with a BA in Political Science, and currently serves as a trustee of the college.  He also earned a JD from the University of Michigan Law School, where he served on the editorial board of the Michigan Law Review, before clerking on the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.
